Unit 6 Blog

The text, “Roads to Quoz”, is an extract from a narrative. This is identifiable from the use of the footer. This is utilized in order to explain things that would not make sense if explained in the story. For example, “Q” is used in the text but cannot explained so it is put in the footer to explain to the reader that it is a nickname for the authors wife. The author speaks in the first person which adds to the text by giving it a more personal tone. Throughout the text, he brings up his own opinion which goes along with that. For example, “My fare in such”, makes the piece more personal since he adds his personal opinion. The writer does a very good job with his descriptive language and thoroughly explains the setting and actions. This positively effects the reader and gives them an image in their head. The author uses the analogy, ”None exceeds bread as…finished whole”. This quote, to me, is cleverly worded which makes the reader ponder what he had said. This leaves a positiv...

Elephant blog

The text overall is about a man shooting an elephant. Throughout the course of this, we hear his thoughts and actions as he shoots the animal. It is a pretty graphic first-person account and the events happen linearly.      The opening paragraph starts with the writer being convinced that he will shoot the animal. He needs to shoot it and says he “ought to” which is an example of a modal verb. The purpose of this is to convey that he does not want to shoot the animal but he has to. This simile also helps convey how large the elephant itself is. The author describes, “The crowd grew still, and a deep, low, happy sigh”, this is said before he shoots the elephant and it adds suspense to the event. However, he also brings up the theatre curtain, meaning that the crowd is there to watch for entertainment. He then talks ...

  a) Olympics: Men’s 100-Meter Sprint Final In the finals, today for the men's 100-meter sprint were Darvis Patton, Walter Dix(USA), Churandy Martina (Netherlands Antilles), Asafa Powell, Michael Frater, Usain Bolt(Jamaica), Richard Thomson, and Marc Burns(Trinidad and Tobago).  All eight lined up for a chance to be the king of their event for the next four years but only one could be on top. Bang! The gun went off and Richard Thomson took off in the beginning with a tremendous hole shot. It was Olympic history how Richard started. Usain Bolt the young Jamaican sprinter struggled to keep up and stumbled trying to catch up. Thomson had a good lead for the first twenty meters and it looked like a Richard Thomson victory with no one near. However, Bolt regained his steps and chipped away at the lead.  Bolt passed Thomson around the fifty pumping strides after stride. After he passed everyone and had a lead he looked over his shoulder to celebrate. Before he crossed the line ...
