PAPER TWO

 Technology

Our new facility is a state-of-the-art building with many modern technological advances. For example, there are smartboards in every room. This allows us to integrate technology into the classroom more often. We also allow students to bring their own laptops. On top of this, we provide laptops for students who don’t have one. This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to learn.

Doors

Our facility is also very secure. We provide each student with an I.D. that incorporates their name and picture. These are required to enter all doors inside and outside the building. If a student loses their I.D. they can purchase a replacement for ten dollars.

Athletics

We offer an abundant amount of athletic activities. These include football, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, track, cross country, and baseball. This gives students a wide range of variety. Our building is equipped with a full-size basketball court that includes six hoops. Currently on the way is a soccer field which will be on campus as well.

Clubs

At MIA we offer many different clubs that allow students to be involved after class. We offer chess club, Japanese clubs, fishing club, Spanish National Honors Society, Yearbook club, Student Government, Key Club, and Science National Honors. These clubs are great for students to earn service hours. It also provides students a safe environment to interact and meet people

School day

An average day at MIA starts at 8:25 in the morning when all students attend mentoring where they do activities and converse with their mentoring teacher. At MIA we operate on a Block schedule which can be beneficial for the students transition to college. A block schedule basically means that we have four class periods or blocks everyday. Each semester the student will complete four classes. With our new facility and capacity we have had to branch out to two lunch periods. A lunch starts before third block at 11:45. The next lunch is B and it does not start until 1:15. Each lunch period lasts 30 minutes. Our school day ends at 3:17PM

Things to know

Remember that the school is big and there are lots of people you can ask for help. If you get lost ask anyone for help and they will. Another tip is to listen to your teachers and make sure you are prepared for class everyday.

In my writing, I had written in the form of a leaflet. Leaflets are typically written with many short paragraphs so I have done the same. I also have sub headings which are  typical of leaflets. These subheadings help the reader navigate the text and they also help with organization. On top of this, they point out the specific topics that are included in the text which gives the reader a preview of  the information presented.

I had written in the third person which generalizes the whole school as one. This is meant to be appropriate to my audience. The audience for this text was new students. I aimed to make the school less intimidating by making it feel smaller. However I do use second person in order to have some direct speech.  I had also brought up points that are meant to leave a calming effect on the reader. For example, “replacement badges” and “safe environment” were meant to give the new student peace of mind.

I structured the paper to suit my audience using mostly simple sentences. I do use compound sentences in order to show a a larger amount of information. For example, when talking about the various clubs and athletics I list the information so that the new student can see what are school offers.

Comments

  1. AO2: There is a clear expression with a range of language. There aren't any errors that impede the communication of the text. The text is organized with ideas that flow and are fully developed. The task is achieved with relevant content. The audience isn't addressed directly, but there is a reference to "students", such as currently enrolled students that are examples for the new students. In the last paragraph there is reference to the audience with the word "you". Overall great job Joseph. (8 marks)

AO3: There is a clear analysis of form, structure, and language. The analysis paragraphs are well organized with relevance. The audience is referenced with how the choices you made effect the reader. (6 marks).

  2. For the AO2 portion Joe showed clear expression with a range of language with some complex structures with some repetition of the way he structured his advice. He Occasionally had errors in his text that were grammatical but not so much. He achieved the overall task of giving new students advice and showing them what they should do going forward with a new school and addressed the audience. The way he structured the headings were not in a way to invite new students to the new campus; it was just one or 2 words that said “doors” and “sports” ; it didn't really give any advice or address the students in any way.
For the AO3 portion the author had limited analysis of form and structure but had clear analysis of language as he used correct tone to address the correct audience, however some of the structure in his sentences lacked information and ability to address the correct audience. HE also had a clear analysis of how the writer stylistic choices relate to audience shape and meaning.
