Gatsby Blog 3
To start off, I would kill Wilson. Out of the three options, he is the worst. Wilson is the husband of Myrtle and is a mechanic who lives in the Valley of Ashes. This means that he is poor and lives in one of, if not the worst parts of the area. Besides the fact that he is poor financially and does not have a lot of belongings, he is also very soft which I do not like. In their marriage, Mrytle wore the pants and he just listened to her. For example, he does not even think about moving away from the Valley of Ashes until he becomes suspicious of his wife seeing other men. Next, I would kiss Tom. Tom is an ex-athlete and a very wealthy man. His appearance is described as being “hulking” and his voice is described as being, “gruff, muffled, husky”, meaning that Tom is very masculine and muscular. He would not be good to marry because he has a history with affairs. However, he treats his mistresses very well and lets them spend his money. Another reason he would be bad to marry is because of his morals and violent nature. He is a racist and also has other contraversial opinions but her tries to spread his ideology. I am not a racist and do not believe the sun gets colder every year so this would be a problem for me. As for his violent nature, Myrtle said, “Daisy! Daisy! Dasiy!”, which resulted in her getting her nose broken. I would not be able to deal with a man of that size once he is out of control nor do I like getting hit. I would also like to add that he is very arrogant and full of himself in almost every situation which would make him difficult to live with. Finally, I would marry Gatsby. I would marry Gatsby because he seems like he would make a great spouse. To start, he has lots of money and doesn’t mind spending it. He is also a nice guy who throws extravagant parties. Gatsby shows how good of a spouse he would be with Daisy. It is a little crazy that he went and bought a whole estate just so Daisy could see it, however, I perceive this as a guy who cares and also a guy who takes action and is not afraid to take risks. Some could say that Gatsby is a liar and that nothing is as it seems with him. This would not bother me since where he went to school and what he does for a living are not my concern as long as he’s keeping me happy and making lots of money.
As for the women, I would start by killing Daisy. Daisy is the wife of Tom and she acts very wealthy and has a bubbly personality. Daisy is described as being attractive and also having a “low, thrilling voice”. She is a women who likes wealth and likes to have expensive things which would be a problem since I am broke. Another reason I would kill Daisy is because she does not know what she wants. Her husband was having an affair and she had a man who would do anything to be with her. Yet she chose to go back to her cheating husband. With the mix of her bubbly personality and her poor decisions I think that she would be annoying and a pain to deal with. Next I would kiss Myrtle, she is the husband of the mechanic Wilson. Myrtle is described to have a, “Thickish” figure meaning that she is attractive. This makes Mytle good to kiss. However, I would not marry Myrtle because she has a fake personality. She changes the way she acts when she is around different people. During her party she went from having “intense vitality” to having “impressive hauteur”, meaning that she went from a strong independent women to a wealthy housewife. I could not be married to someone who is that overconfident. Lastly, I would marry Jordan, she is a professional tennis player and is very attractive. Throughout the story she expresses lots a vitality which I like. She is one of the only women we see who is single and making their own income. She also is very upfront and truthful. She does not sugar coat things and but she likes to have fun. Throughout the novel she is said to be hard to find because of all the places she goes and all the people she sees. This is great because I never have any plans. Jordan is also very sang-froid often times calming Daisy down.
