In the text, the author uses many descriptive words in order to leave an effect on the reader. Throughout the text, they also use things such as context and structure so the reader can better understand and compare the two areas.
The writer uses lexical choice many times in order to affect the reader. For example, he uses ‘drama’ and ‘milky’ in order to give the reader a more specific image. The word milky means to be smooth, however in the text it gives the reader the feeling that the area is more calm or safe. The author also used the word drama to describe the clouds. The Drama of there being clouds gives the reader a feeling that the town is very peaceful. In the second part of the text, the writer creates a different mood with his lexical choice. The author says things like,’ cold air of charcoal’, ‘months-old dirt’, and ‘human excrement. Which give the reader a bad impression of Qazigund
The author used context-influenced by purpose in order to leave a better effect on the reader. The writer does this by describing Kashmir with the words coolness, snow-capped, milky blue sky, and morning mist. The author then describes Qazigund with the smell of charcoal, tobacco, cooking oil, and human excrement. The difference between the word choice can be called context influenced by purpose. Meaning that the writer purposely changed the words in order to make the difference between the towns seem more significant.
The writer also uses structure to leave an effect on the reader. The structure of this text is just two paragraphs, each describing a different area. However, the writer did this on purpose in order for the reader to compare the two towns. The text is also informal which better shows the writer’s experience. Because of this, the text is mostly comprised of compound and complex sentences, “It was men wrapped in brown blankets against the morning mist, the barefooted shepherd boys with caps and covered ear on a steep wet rocky slides.” This affects the reader by giving them a detailed description of the things that are occurring.
AO1:I give myself 3 marks. I believe that I showed a clear understanding however I could have gone into more detail. I also have a clear reference to characteristic features.
ReplyDeleteAO3: I would give myself 9 marks. I grade myself like this because after reading the rubric I have noticed that I need to explain my ideas more thoroughly. This would help give the reader a better understanding of what I am trying to say. Other than that, my explanations I think I was pretty clear in stating my opinions. I also think my language was appropriate.
